Hello! Boozhoo!Kate McDonald ndizhinikaaz. My name is Kate McDonald and I'm the librarian at Happy Thought School. This is my 5th year at HTS and I love it! I am also part of Mashkiki Wiigwaam with our Grade 3 & 4 Indigenous students.
East Selkirk indaa. I live in East Selkirk. I've lived in Winnipeg and Saskatoon as well. I am married and we have two sons, one guinea pig and one extra large dog. (that's our dog in the picture!) Before I became a school librarian I was a full-time writer and artist. Over the years I have spent a lot of time in various schools doing writing workshops, readings and cultural teachings. I love reading, writing and storytelling! I like to make up stories with the kids or write a random group poem so we can see how words go together. Words are just like lego blocks - you can build anything out of them! I spend a lot of time reading, writing, wandering outside, in the bush, and learning to speak Anishinaabemowin. My goal with the language is to speak fluently enough that by the time I am a Kookom (grandmother) that I can speak to my grandbabies in the language. Miigwech/thank you to all our HTS families for sharing your kids with us. It is a privilege to be a part of their school family! |
